Crystal Petty (back row, center) has nothing but high praise for the care her grandmother, Alice Martin (front row, middle), received at Odessa Memorial Healthcare Center. Alice was already suffering from many cardiac problems when she broke her hip on July 12, 2023. As part of her rehabilitation, she stayed at the 24-hour, 25-bed Critical Access Hospital for almost a month. Heath DeHart (front row, left), Patricia Nelson (back row, right) and Alexa Boss (front row, right) were all part of Alice’s care team.
“I was so impressed by the care my grandmother received,” says Crystal. “The entire staff really got to know my grandmother and cared about her on a personal level. When she first arrived, she was grumpy and lazy. But the staff really softened her up and got her laughing again so she was motivated to do her physical therapy.”
Alice loved all the extracurricular activities the staff provided, from enjoying music to having a spa day. “She especially enjoyed playing bingo, a game from her youth,” Crystal says. “She was really happy there. Everybody was her buddy.”
Eventually, Alice moved to a facility in Wilbur to be closer to Crystal before passing away in October 2024. “My grandmother lived more than a year after the doctors said she had only three months,” Crystal says. “I’m so thankful to Odessa Memorial Healthcare Center for lifting her spirits!”
